Second Joint Summer School on Molecular Biomedicine

9–13 July 2012

Molecular Biology Summer School

Objectives

The Joint Summer School on Molecular Biomedicine entitled “Filling the Gaps” covers a selection of relevant topics of basic and pre-clinical research in the field of molecular medicine. In particular, this year lectures will cover molecular aspects of DNA repair, Autophagy, microRNA, Epigenetic, Cancer stem cells, Inflammation, Tissue homeostasis, Cell death and proliferation. The summer school “Filling the Gaps” aims to stimulate the discussion on frontier’s topics, by bringing closely scientists working on seemly-unrelated arguments.

The school is addressed to PhD students of the Universities of Udine, Trieste, and SISSA. Participation of the students from the Doctoral Schools of Bioinformatics and Nanotechnology is particularly encouraged.

The school is part of a series aimed at creating an interdisciplinary environment across the regional higher education institutes, and to foster the interdisciplinary interests in the students.

The approach is multi-disciplinary and lectures are tailored for a broad audience of PhD students and young researchers. Top-level scientist in different fields will tutorially introduce the contents of their lectures (morning seminar) and will bring their most recent experimental results in the field, in the afternoon seminar. Participating students will have a unique opportunity to broaden their views of molecular medicine, to learn new experimental techniques and unresolved questions, to meet top class scientists active in the field and to build and strengthen a personal network of relations with peers.

Lectures

Lectures will be given in English. A participation certificate will be given to all requesting attendees.

Poster session

A poster session is scheduled during the summer school. The last-year PhD students are warmly encouraged to present their experimental work as poster. Approximately 20 poster positions will be organized in the hall of Aula Magna. Students should provide materials to fix posters.

Organization and Sponsors

The Summer School on Molecular Medicine is part of the Regional Graduate School Initiative sponsored by Regione Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. It is a three year initiative jointly organized by, and rotating among, Università di Trieste (2011 edition), Università di Udine (2012 edition).
